.be-geek-dinner#

Update: because of TechEd, the date has moved to the 25th of June.

Look people, we're running way behind here. Seriously. We must be around the smallest country in the blogosphere, still we don't use that huge geographic advantage to have us some good old-fashioned fun.

A lot of you are doing the linking thingy and some of you are keeping up a separate Belgian blogroll - great! But I'd like to get to know you Belgian bloggers out there a little more personally. Put a face on the fame, you know. So how about we arrange ourself a little get-together and have a geek dinner (a ".be-geek-dinner" if you will) like our American friends do all the time. Only better - of course ;-)

I guess it's impossible to get this done democratically by everybody voting for dates and places so I'll just toss in a suggestion:

Friday the 2nd of July Friday the 25th of June, Het Pakhuis in Antwerp, at 20:00.

Closing financial years and deadlines should be over by then, it's a pretty big place so there's enough room, and best of all: it's also a fine brewery so we're upholding our Belgian culture :-)

Leave a comment if you're coming; if there's enough people, I'll make reservations and try to get us a tour of the brewery.

So... Spread the word, steal this post, or hype it up big time and host the button!

(Yeah I realize this button thing is way over the top, but whatever :-) )

You can count on me. I think this is great. And finally something in my neighbourhood. BTW : Is it with food or only drinks.

A little to fast. What I want to write was : The food Can we choose between two menu's or something ?

I guess it depends on how many people will be coming: if there's more than 10 people (which I'd hope) then we can take group menus (see the site). Otherwise I guess all options are open, but the regular menu's are also on the site so you can take a pick in advance.

But I'll get back on the practical details a few days before "dinner night", when I have an idea how many people will be there... Cool?

It is a real cool idea.
Only the date is not so good. (the day after Tech-ed.)

Sorry, I will have an overload of Geeks by then...

Jelle,

Great idea, but bad choice of date: about half the Belgian Microsoft community will either still be on the way home from TechEd Amsterdam, or just too tired after stuffing our heads for a week with new stuff.

How about a week earlier or later ?

Damn, I totally forgot about TechEd - can you tell I'm not going? ;-)

I guess if we move it further into July then people will be off to distant mountains and sunny beaches so I propose we move it slightly into June. The original post is updated... Hope you can all be there!

Count me in then.

Shouldn't the name be: .ms-geek-dinner ;-)

No the idea is great, I hope you don't mind that a fellow colleague is joining your geek fest? I'm sure you need someone to have a slighty different opinion on techology... Or is that off limit for that night?

Count me in.

A pity. I already have a BBQ with the "Badmiton club" on the new date. Since I'm organising it, I can't come on the 25th. So guys and girls have fun that evening. Hope this will be organised again in the future.

Doggi -

It's not because 99% of the people on my blogroll are doing the MS/.NET thingy that it's limited to that specific toolset. I'm not running slashdot here you know :-) It's just about techies having fun. No actually, it's about MS techies making fun of the one Java underdog present so please come to our party ;-)

Sven -

Too bad you can't make it... Can't you just move the badminton bbq to the 2nd of July (badmintonners are less likely to go to TechEd I guess)? ;-) No, we'll see how this one goes but there's no reason not to do this more often of course.

Jelle,

Great idea! I hope you can find the "critical mass" of geeks to show up. I've blocked my agenda, so if everything goes well I'll be there as well.
Monday, June 07, 2004 8:23:25 AM (Romance Standard Time, UTC+01:00)
I'll be there.
Monday, June 07, 2004 8:59:03 AM (Romance Standard Time, UTC+01:00)
I'll be there and so will my girlfriend (partners are allowed, right?)

Kind regards and thanks for a great initiative,
Roy

Ok... what a shame !
The first date was ok for me, but the second isn't !
In the evening I'll be on the plane to Barcelona ;)

But still a great initiative.

Have fun

This is my personal website, not my boss', not my mother's, and certainly not the pope's. My personal opinions may be irrelevant, inaccurate, boring or even plain wrong, I'm sorry if that makes you feel uncomfortable. But then again, you don't have to read them, I just hope you'll find something interesting here now and then. I'll certainly do my best. But if you don't like it, go read the pope's blog. I'm sure it's fascinating.
